The season of Lent is partly about sacrifices, I mean, we all know I guess the very essence of the season, but during Lent we all have our own little sacrifices, right? I always try to give up ‘something’ during Lent. Sometimes I give up something really trivial, but I can’t do without, other times, I give up something really important to me. I had to forego a lot of things this summer. One of the things I had to give up, I’m not going to Boracay anymore this April, people had to back out on me… thrice! Also this week, I did not go to Baguio because I had work last Wednesday, I can’t sacrifice work for out of town trip, so I guess it’s the other way around. It’s really time to stay at home or be with the family. Plus the no-meat-Friday, seriously, it’s a big sacrifice for me, and also to my brother. We were literally fidgeting the whole day, because we can’t seem to fill our tummies with whatever we eat, and though we ate in big quantities.. well, we badly needed protein! Add to that our lola eating pizza in the kitchen, pizza that had the aroma filling the whole household, because she’s excempted daw with the no meat thing. So the first thing I did when I woke up today, I went straight to the fridge, and pulled that pizza box ;) I realized I really can’t be a vegetarian, I need my meat.
Going back.. though there are stuffs I had to give up, I had to reward myself to make me feel better. But the thing with that, although I had to make little sacrifices, my rewards seem to level out what I gave up. In the past, I used to feel Holy Week as something really solemn, but since I’ve been a part of the labor force, I think I’m starting to view the long weekend as a time to relax and unwind. I think it’s the longest weekend ever for anyone who works, right? Unlike when you’re a student, there are summer/semestral breaks. Okay, I’ll stop justifying my actions, I still haven’t forgotten what this week is all about despite my so-called rewards. Here’s the rundown of what I did this weekend:
Last Wednesday, since I had work and I had to turn down invitations to out of town trips, I went to Embassy. I’m a big fan of hip hop Wednesdays, from the now-defunct Intercon’s Wherelse to GB3’s Absinth, now Embassy! I had to make myself feel better for going to work on a Wednesday while other people are either on vacation already, or at least half-day at work..
Thursday and today, I went to Tagaytay. The first one’s with friends, it was a spur of the moment thing. Though it’s summer already, the weather’s really good... At par with Baguio’s weather, or so I’d like to think. Tagaytay’s my substitute for Baguio, minus the long trip. The second one was today with family/relatives, just had dinner and coffee after, then headed home.
